I have some news. I’m starting an email list. You see, my writing career has been changing over the past few years, and it is continuing to do so, which has led to some problems. I’m no longer just writing three articles a month for a girl’s online magazine that all get published in the same place at the same time. In fact, that magazine isn’t even up and running anymore

Instead, I’m guest posting and submitting articles to a variety of websites. I’m writing books and hosting conferences and honestly, I can’t keep up with what I’m doing when or where I was published when or — just all of it. My mom asked me the other day how I keep track of it all, and I kinda don’t. If I’m submitting to a website I’m excited about, then I feverishly check my email every five minutes, but mostly I just get surprised by emails and then I apologize for forgetting emails and then — yeah, you get the picture.

So let’s remedy the issue, shall we? I am very belatedly starting an email list! Through it, I want to be able to connect with you all more reliably, organizedly (is that a word?), and intentionally.

What can you expect from my email list?

Of course, what exactly is an email list when it comes to authors? We’re all a part of annoying email lists from companies who want to tell us every single time they have a new product or sale or just want to give you something to add to your trashcan. And often, these are very helpful. But at the same time — no one likes spam. Or a cluttered inbox. You don’t even want to know how many unread emails I have. And I tried to email someone yesterday only to get an email back that their inbox was too full . . . like, is that even a thing?

So I don’t want to do any spamming. From my email list, you can expect one email twice a month (unless, you know, I publish a book or host a conference — then you might get a few more when I can’t contain my excitement. I apologize for the in advance).

In those emails, you can expect:

• Some random brief stuff about my personal life, since, after all, this email list is supposed to help me connect with you better.
• And, yes, book sale notifications. Ignoring all I said up there about sale emails from companies.
• Other fun stuff!

My goal with each email will be to help keep you in the loop, connect with you better, and offer encouragement. I don’t want this to just be about growing an author platform, I want to be able to serve you to my best ability. And I think this will make some things simpler and easier for all of us.
