So many chronically ill Christians feel so alone. Day after day, we struggle to get out of bed, to function through the pain, to hold on to hope. As years pass and we live in constant pain and unknowns, it’s hard.
At first, people tend to bring meals and flowers and offer hugs. But as time goes on, people forget. And chronic illness warriors battle day in and day out in silence. In private, bedridden and housebound.
And they — we — feel forgotten. We feel like we’re fighting these battles alone.
I think one of the biggest reasons for this is because people don’t know how to help. Well, today, I want to offer one way you can serve and love chronic illness warriors and let them know they aren’t alone.
I got the idea through something Open Doors does. They are an organization that helps persecuted believers and for the past year, I’ve been volunteering remotely with them. One of the things I do is edit letters of encouragement.
You see, frontline workers with Open Doors will share a need and then Christians from all over the world can write short little letters for encouragement for them. What I do, is go through the letters and make sure there isn’t anything in it that will cause danger for those receiving, delivering, or sending it. I’ve probably edited thousands of letters over the last year, and it has been such a cool thing to be apart of.
Well, I wondered if we could do the same thing for chronically ill Christians. Let’s all come together and write letters for chronic illness warriors who feel so alone. Let’s let them know that they are seen, loved, and fought for in prayer. Even if you just take two minutes and write a sentence or two, it will be hugely encouraging.
Right now, many people are getting a small taste of what chronic illness warriors go through every single day as COVID-19 is forcing them to be isolated, housebound, and extremely careful all the time. Today I want to challenge everyone, both chronically ill and healthy, to encourage and love those who face this every day for years.
Please share this as much as possible, and go ahead and get your letters submitted ASAP! Once the letters are submitted, I will be putting this together into a published book.
Let me know if you have any questions, and again, I can’t urge you enough to take just two minutes and encourage chronic illness warriors in this way.
Love,
Sara
Oh, this is such a good idea! Thank you for doing this! <3
Great idea! I will sit down soon to write a letter!
