Today, we interrupt our usual broadcasting to talk about an amazing book (Strong Brave Loved) and author (Holley Gerth). (Sorry, I’m Sara, talk of books is inevitable every now and then. 😉 ) Last year, I read Fiercehearted by Holley Gerth for the first time. A friend just wouldn’t stop talking about it, so I decided to treat myself. And I am so glad I did. It was one of those books that really helped me as I struggled to heal and grieve from what chronic illness has stolen from me.

As soon as I finished reading it the first time, I immediately began reading it together with my mom. At this point, I don’t even know how many copies of it I’ve gifted to some Fiercehearted women.

Strong Brave Loved is almost like a devotional version of Fiercehearted. It touches on a lot of similar topics to Fiercehearted, but with a lot of original content and stories. Each day, there is a verse or two, a page or two of encouragement, and then questions and space to prompt journaling. You can do how much or how little you have time or energy for — perfect for spoonies. Holley also writes in an easy-to-understand way with a whole lot of compassion. She doesn’t shy away from painful or messy topics but shines God’s truth and grace into them.

I haven’t gotten to finish the book yet — I’m trying to savor it, and there are so many nuggets of wisdom to digest — but almost every day, it’s exactly what I need right when I need it. Most pages are cluttered with notes in the margins, stars on certain sentences, and countless underlined parts.

I would definitely recommend this Strong Brave Loved to anyone in need of some Biblical encouragement.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher for promotional purposes. A positive review was not required, all thoughts are my own.

Bestselling author Holley Gerth feels like your best friend, your supportive sister, and your biggest cheerleader. She understands that you want to be a woman who looks life in the face and says, “You can’t beat me.” A woman who knows love is a risk and reaches out anyway. A woman who understands kindness takes real courage. Who doesn’t fake it or try to hide her scars. Who fights to believe she is who God says she is and helps others do the same.

Strong, Brave, Loved offers 60 short devotions to empower you to be that kind of woman. It’s simple, personal, and practical, with room for you to journal your own responses and reflections. With these concise and compassionate devotions, Holley leads you on a journey of discovery as you learn to live in freedom, hope, and holy courage.
